Ecology Ottawa > Election

Let's make the Environment an Election Priority

Photo

As part of Ecology Ottawa's election strategy, we will be holding community meetings in various parts of the city for interested individuals who want to learn more about Ecology Ottawa, are passionate about environmental issues in our city, and want to make sure that the environment is a priority for candidates this election.

On this page you will find information on the latest events being planned as well as learn about key issues that your fellow residents are concerned about.  As the summer progresses, we will be having more of these meetings in other parts of the city and we encourage those who are interested to come out and participate.  To learn more, contact:

Environmental Mayoral Debate

The environment is no longer a single issue topic related to conservation. The environment and sustainable development are integral to the social and economic health and prosperity of our city.  As Canada's capital city, the second largest city in Ontario, with a population approaching a million people, Ottawa has a significant impact on the environment and a role to play in reducing this impact in a way which grows the economy and improves social well being.

Details:
Where: St. Paul's University Auditorium, 223 Main Street (Click here for a map)
When: Sunday 26 September 2010, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m (The debate will start promptly at 7 so people are encouraged to be there by 6:30 pm)

This debate is being sponsored by a non-partisan consortium of local environmental organizations, citizen experts and philanthropic organizations (see below). Collectively we work on issues which are of interest to every voter in the city.

This is a policy debate.  It is not intended to be a science quiz. Our goal is to discuss the views of candidates on Ottawa's environment and sustainable development challenges and how they will work to ensure Ottawa's place as a model and sustainable capital city.

Audience members will also have an opportunity to ask a few questions to candidates.  In addition, you can submit a question online by emailing until September 20th.

The following candidates have confirmed their attendance:
Jim Watson
Clive Doucet
Charlie Taylor
Cesar Bello
Robin Lawrance
Jane Scharf
