Rally for a Sustainable Ottawa: HOLD THE LINE, NO MORE URBAN SPRAWL! Tues., May 12 @ 12:00 p.m. Human Rights Monument (outside City Hall, Elgin & Lisgar) The
City of Ottawa's draft official plan includes a significant expansion
of the urban area. That's the area inside which the city will supply
infrastructure likes piped water and sewers, and therefore the area
where developers build most new housing. City staff want to add
850 hectares to the urban area. Developers are lobbying for even more
rural land to build sprawling suburbs on. City council is under a lot
of pressure to cave in to developers' demands -- we need to push back,
and tell them to hold the line on urban sprawl! Join the Coalition for a Sustainable Ottawa for a rally outside City Hall, and tell city council that it's a bad idea to expand the urban boundary at all. The
public is also welcome all day at City Hall as the planning committees
consider revisions to the urban boundary and other parts of Ottawa's
official plan. For more information, write to coalition4aSustainableOttawa@gmail.com, or see the flyer below:
