Alice Irene Whittaker

Executive Director

Alice Irene is an environmental leader who is passionate about citizen action and caretaking.
Alice Irene has lead teams and volunteers in a diversity of organizations, from small grassroots NGOs to large international charities. Most recently, Alice Irene was on the executive leadership team of The Natural Step Canada, a systems change charity, and the Director of Communications at Smart Prosperity Institute, an Ottawa-based national economic-environmental think tank. She co-founded and was Executive Director of Mother Nature Partnership, a volunteer-powered charity working at the intersection of reducing waste and advancing gender equality.
A natural storyteller, she is a published essayist, spokesperson on national media outlets, and is writing a book about the human experience of regeneration and care. She is the creator and host of Reseed, a podcast about repairing our relationship with nature and each other. Awards include being longlisted for the CBC Nonfiction Prize, and being the recipient of a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Innovation Award. She is a proud member of groups like Régéneration Canada and Women for Nature.
Alice Irene is on a lifelong, imperfect journey of environmental action, including permaculture gardening, reducing waste, protest, and other actions to do her best at this moment in time. She is working to raise her three children to be active citizens and stewards.
Her favourite quote is from Jane Goodall, and reads, “It is the peace of the forest that I carry inside.”
