We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our EcoYouth Pollinator Gardens which are native plant pollinator gardens at two beautiful sites in Ottawa. These gardens will be a haven for bees, butterflies, and other crucial pollinators, while adding natural beauty to our community.

Stay tuned for more details of the planting and care of these vital ecosystems. Together, we can make a difference, one garden at a time!

Pollinator gardens are vital for several reasons:

  • Biodiversity Boost: They provide habitats for bees, butterflies, birds, small animals, and other pollinators, promoting biodiversity.
  • Food Production: Pollinators are essential for the reproduction of many crops. Without them, we’d struggle to grow fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
  • Ecosystem Health: They support the health of ecosystems by ensuring plants reproduce and maintain ecological balance.
  • Beauty and Education: They offer beautiful spaces that educate people about the importance of pollinators and sustainable gardening practices.
  • Resilience: They help build resilient ecosystems that can better withstand environmental stressors like climate change.

Native plants are important for several reasons:

  • Adaptation: They are naturally adapted to the local environment, meaning they require less water, fertilizer, and pesticides.
  • Support for Wildlife: They provide essential food and habitat for local wildlife, including pollinators like bees and butterflies.
  • Ecosystem Health: Native plants help maintain the balance of local ecosystems, supporting soil health, water conservation, and reducing erosion.
  • Biodiversity: They contribute to biodiversity by supporting a wide range of species that have co-evolved with them.
  • Resilience: Native plants are more resilient to local pests and diseases, making them a sustainable choice for gardening and landscaping.
