Reflection on the opposition between gentrification serving real estate developers and sustainable urban planning for citizens.
In April, the Alliance Française of Ottawa will address issues of land planning and the need to give more space to greenery. The goal is to raise public awareness of the environmental challenges in everyday life.
We are therefore offering a screening of the film “Tant que le soleil frappe” (As Long as the Sun Hits). This feature film contrasts the harsh reality of urban projects with the interests of various stakeholders in the construction of urban landscapes, often at the expense of social and environmental realities.
The screening will be followed by a presentation from Ecology Ottawa to introduce their mission and actions in favor of a vibrant city, integrating nature into urban spaces, as well as other aspects of their program.

Synopsis:
Max doesn't dream of building green walls for five-star hotels. A tenacious, committed but cornered landscaper, he is fighting to create a wild garden, without fences, right in the centre of a metropolis: a planted area open to all. After years of rejection, his project reached the final of an architecture competition. For Max, it's the last chance to offer oxygen to the inhabitants, who are suffocating in an urban hell under the beating sun.
