Healthcare statement: Breathe easy
Support green transportation for a healthy Ontario
Air pollution is a public health issue that affects us all, but not equally. Children, seniors, people with disabilities and urban residents are hit hardest. So are the hospitals and healthcare workers who care for people made sick by preventable illnesses.
Healthcare organizations across Ontario agree that it’s far better to prevent illness than to treat it. In this statement, they call on the Ontario government to make clean transportation a public health priority.

What the statement calls for
- Restore provincial funding for public transit: Return to the Province funding 50% of municipal transit operating costs, so cities can offer fast, frequent, electrified transit.
- Shift highway spending toward healthy communities: Invest in healthcare, public transit, road safety and safe cycling instead of new highway expansion.
- Electrify Ontario’s school bus fleet: Protect the children who ride diesel buses to school every day, and cut the health costs that come with pollution.
