For over 30 years, the Toronto Environmental Alliance has campaigned locally to find solutions to Toronto's urban environmental problems. As a not-for-profit organization, we advocate on behalf of all Torontonians for a green, healthy and equitable city. We rely on our supporters to help us work with communities and we act as an environmental watchdog at City Hall.

Environment Hamilton

Environment Hamilton is a community-focused non-profit working towards a city that is a carbon-neutral community with

secure local food sources,
sustainable transportation, and
healthy, clean air, water and land.

Environment Hamilton inspires people to protect and enhance our environment through leadership, education and advocacy. We do this by providing people with knowledge and skills to enhance and protect the environment around them.

The Citizens Environment Alliance

The Citizens Environment Alliance (CEA) is a non-profit, grass-roots, international, education and research organization. We are committed to an ecosystem approach to environmental planning and management.

Watersheds Canada

Watersheds Canada is a federally incorporated non-profit organization and registered Canadian charity. We are committed to providing programs to communities across the country that work to engage and help shoreline owners enhance and protect the health of lakes and rivers.

Nature Canada

Nature Canada is one of the oldest national nature conservation charities in Canada. For 80 years, Nature Canada has helped protect over 110 million acres of parks and wildlife areas in Canada and countless species. Today, Nature Canada represents a network of over 130,000 members and supporters and more than 1,000 nature organizations.

Climate Legacy

Climate Legacy is a project to engage and mobilize older Canadians in climate action through their voice, their time and their money. Our vision is that Canada move steadily and effectively towards a zero net carbon economy in the next decade through actions at municipal, provincial and federal levels. Seniors comprise a significant force in combating climate change and are often overlooked in current mobilizing efforts. This is why we are establishing a climate action platform and resource dedicated to older Canadians.

Synapcity - Ottawa’s Organization for Civic Engagement

Synapcity is Ottawa’s community broker and leading organization for civic education and neighbourhood engagement.

We energize and activate people and institutions to converse, open mindsets, understand viewpoints and work together as citymakers. We do so through dialogue, events and education that address the challenges and opportunity we face as a city.

Peoples Official Plan Coalition

The City of Ottawa’s Official Plan does not go far enough to deal effectively with the climate emergency, the homelessness emergency, housing equity, active transportation, access to greenspace, waste management, walkability, human-scale intensification, food security and other key dimensions of urban life. We work to analyse and shape policy outcomes of the City’s Official Plan and its implementation, with a view to greater economic, social and climate justice, and ethical city planning practice.

City for All Women Initiative (CAWI)

City for All Women Initiative (CAWI) is a not-for-profit grassroots organization working towards a more inclusive Ottawa-Gatineau.

As intersectional feminists, we want to ensure that municipal governments systematically consider the perspectives of diverse women, girls, non-binary and gender-non-conforming people with lived experience of marginalization.

We pursue our mission through training, capacity building, civic engagement and advocacy. We work alongside women and organizations, and seek to engage City decision makers.

Just Food

Just Food is a local, non-profit, community-based organization that works on both rural and urban food and farming issues in Ottawa and the surrounding region

Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre

The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre has been giving wildlife a voice and helping people live in harmony with nature for over 30 years. Our mission is to establish a better understanding and respect for wildlife and to mitigate the impact of rapid development and human encroachment into wildlife habitat. We have a YouTube channel, and a wide range of programs.

Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES Ottawa)

Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES) is a network of residents and citizens’ associations in the City of Ottawa, established in 2010 and active on unceded Algonquin territory. Members of CAFES are community association environment committee chairs or green point persons in citizens associations. We also have individual members who are citizens active in their communities and concerned with living in ecological balance.

Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment

CAPE collaborates with other organizations, nationally and internationally, to work effectively and build power together. We support physicians to be advocates for healthier environments and ecosystems. We take action to enable health for all by engaging with governments, running campaigns, conducting research, and drawing media attention to key issues.

Carleton Climate Commons Working Group

The Carleton Climate Commons Working Group brings together faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students at Carleton University to discuss climate change issues in relation to the humanities and social sciences, to share academic work, and to share ideas and articles.

The university has long been the place our society carves out for addressing issues of vital importance to all of society. Climate change is one of those issues. And yet in our increasingly specialized world, the solution to climate change is often perceived to come from science or government or some combination of the two. We think the humanities and social sciences have a role to play here too. The Working Group is a forum for exploring what that role might be.

Assembly of Seven Generations

Assembly of Seven Generations (A7G) is an Indigenous owned and youth-led, non-profit organization focused on cultural support and empowerment programs/policies for Indigenous youth while being led by traditional knowledge and Elder guidance.

Alliance To End Homelessness

The Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa is a member-driven coalition of people and organizations working together to end homelessness through systems planning and coordination, public education and advocacy, and community-wide mobilization.

Our mission is to support individuals and families of African and Caribbean descent, and other equity deserving individuals, through community partnership and programming that results in successful economic and civic participation in Canadian society.

Environmental Defence

Environmental Defence is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities.

For over 35 years, Environmental Defence has worked at the municipal, provincial and federal level to safeguard our freshwater, create livable communities, decrease Canadians’ exposure to toxic chemicals, end plastic pollution, tackle climate change and build a clean economy.

Greenspace Alliance

The Greenspace Alliance of Canada’s Capital is an organization of individuals and citizens’ groups working to protect significant green spaces in the national capital area. We try to provide sensible, reliable information, and have earned a reputation for it in city planning circles. Our members include scientists, journalists and economists. We are not opposed to development – in fact, we support good planning and a rational, sustainable relationship with our environment in order to create livable, breathable urban spaces.

Wellington Water Watchers

The Water Watchers began as a grassroots organization founded in 2007 to oppose Nestlé Water Canada’s local water-bottling operations in Wellington County, Ontario. Today, the Water Watchers has become a unique resource to grassroots leaders on the frontlines of water protection.

Our unique, campaign-based approach to mobilizing public support to protect water has helped communities win major victories. These campaigns bring more and more people into the movement to protect water by connecting the dots between local and systemic issues, targeting systemic change through movement-building.

Ottawa Riverkeeper

Ottawa Riverkeeper, a charitable organization, is a champion and collective voice for the Ottawa River watershed, providing leadership and inspiration to protect, promote and improve its ecological health and future.

Grand(m)others Act To Save The Planet (GASP)

Grand(m)others Act To Save The Planet (GASP) is a grassroots, non-partisan group of grandmothers and grand 'others' who care deeply about the world our descendants will inherit.

We, women of a certain age, have the benefit of life experience and the time to get things done. We can be advocates for the common good: activists for a sustainable world.

GASPs want to model themselves on our indigenous grandmother sisters, the ‘wisdom carriers’, the elders, who look out for the best interests of the next 7 generations.

It is our generation that has polluted the planet for our convenience and our greed. Our grandchildren will pay the price. They will certainly ask “What did you do, Grandma, when you knew?”

SeedChange supports small-scale farmers around the world in their fight for justice, health and sustainability. We partner with like-minded local partners to help keep seeds in farmers’ hands, protect farmers’ rights, and build stronger, more resilient food systems.

Evergreen

For over 30 years, we’ve been facilitating change in communities through connection, innovation and sustainable actions. We work with community builders across sectors to solve some of the most pressing issues cities face: climate change, housing affordability, and access to nature and public spaces.

Our approach is to bring together different people and lead with a mindset focused on solutions so we can test and scale the ideas needed in cities. We believe that no one actor can solve these challenges alone. We convene and engage to revitalize and transform spaces into great places that are inclusive to all people and sustainable at their core.

Ottawa Transit Riders

Ottawa Transit Riders is a non-partisan, membership-based, advocacy group, working to make Ottawa’s transit system more affordable, reliable, accessible, and safe for users. Ottawa Transit Riders believes that a robust transit system is at the heart of the solutions our City Council can implement in response to the climate crisis we are facing.

Ottawa Climate Action Fund

The Ottawa Climate Action Fund (OCAF) exists to catalyze and scale low-carbon solutions to their full potential in Ottawa. We align this work with community benefit, bringing low-carbon initiatives, investments and people together to deliver tangible, lasting success.

For Our Kids

For Our Kids is a national network of parent-led, community-based grassroots groups involved in climate action. We strive to be a welcoming place for all parents, guardians, grandparents and caregivers to connect and act together.

Our vision is a world that we're proud to pass along to our kids and grandkids - more secure, more equitable, and more just than how we found it. It starts with recognizing and respecting Indigenous Rights and working together for climate justice - curbing emissions while addressing the racial, economic, gender and other inequities that climate change intensifies.

Ottawa Water Study/Action Group

Join the Ottawa Water Study/Action Group (OWSAG) in holding the City of Ottawa accountable for stopping the sale of bottled water in all municipal buildings, and, instead promoting the City’s own high-quality drinking water.

OWSAG is also working to educate the public about environmental problems related to drinking water from single-use plastic bottles.

David Suzuki Foundation

Always grounded in sound evidence, the David Suzuki Foundation empowers people to take action in their communities on the environmental challenges we collectively face. We’re One Nature.

Through evidence-based research, policy analysis, education and citizen empowerment, we conserve and protect the natural environment to create a sustainable Canada. We collaborate with non-profit and community organizations, all levels of government, businesses and individuals.

Our project work is supported by individual donors, foundation grants and corporate support.

ACORN Ottawa

ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) Canada is a multi-issue, membership-based community union of low- and moderate-income people. We believe that social and economic justice can best be achieved by building community power for change. Each member has a vote, and only members speak for the organization and have the authority to set the policy and determine the tactics of each group.

Council of Canadians Ottawa Chapter

Our vision is to advocate for a society built on democracy, justice and care for each other. We believe we can learn from the perspectives and struggles of others as we work together for a more just world.

We do this by bringing people together to take collective action and build grassroots community power as we work for a just recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. With our members, supporters and chapter activists, we learn, organize and act together as we fight for clean water, fair trade, strengthened public health care, climate justice and democracy.

Waste Watch Ottawa

Waste Watch Ottawa is committed to improving The City of Ottawa’s waste management practices and contributing to a greening of the city by supporting the development of new and improved waste diversion programs and initiatives designed to minimize the amount of waste being disposed of and avoiding the greenhouse gas impacts associated with waste generation and waste disposal.

WWO develops and presents evidence based, and informed opinions on how to improve the design and effectiveness of solid waste diversion from disposal policies and programs including the management of organic wastes. It achieves its mandate by undertaking research, reviewing and re-thinking economic, policy and engineering approaches and trends, both nationally and internationally, in the six “R’s” of rethink/redesign, reduce, reuse, recycle/compost, material recovery and residuals management.

The Starfish

The Starfish Canada celebrates young environmental leaders by connecting them with a platform for storytelling and a community of changemakers. Through our national platform, young changemakers are able to advocate for the environmental issues that matter to them, and make their voices heard.

We are a community that supports environmental sustainability by sharing stories and taking action from coast-to-coast, whether that is in one person’s community or across the globe.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities

FCM has been the national voice of municipal government since 1901. Our members include more than 2,100 municipalities of all sizes, from Canada's cities and rural communities, to northern communities and 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations. Together, they represent more than 92 percent of all Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Municipal leaders from across Canada assemble each year to set FCM policy on key issues.

Canadian municipalities came together in 1901 as the Union of Canadian Municipalities (UCM). The Dominion Conference of Mayors was established in 1935 and by 1937 the two national bodies joined as the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities—renamed the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in 1976.

Today, we advocate for municipalities to be sure their citizens' needs are reflected in federal policies and programs. Year after year, our work benefits every municipal government and taxpayer in Canada, and our programming delivers tools that help municipalities tackle local challenges.
