Double questions in a survey are not good survey design. However, I will explain that urban boundary extension is necessary for a number of reasons. However, the two things listed here (urban boundary extension and building more 15-minute neighbourhoods) are not mutually exclusive. In fact, in the newer neighbourhoods, there is the best chance of us designing 15-minute neighbourhoods. This is not a topic that can be discussed properly in this short survey.

This is a difficult one. I am fully on board with building 15 minute communities all over our city. We are in the midst of designing and building a new and revolutionary community here in Kanata North. I hope to use it as an example of what can be within our urban boundaries. However, we know that growth in our city, and in particular Kanata North will be rising at an almost unprecedented rate. There maybe times where we may need to seriously look at our boundaries and expanding them at times. This does not mean that I wouldn’t look at all alternatives on the table, nor does it mean that I would not also ensure that we maintain as much greenspace as is possible for the community and city residents. We know how much benefit these areas have on public mental and physical well being, we need to ensure we maintain as much as is possible.
