The National Capital chapter of the Friends of the Environment Foundation TD, have awarded Ecology Ottawa and the Alta Vista Neighbourhood Team more than $5000 to continue planting in Orlando Park.
With the City of Ottawa's forestry department help, neighbours, members of the Alta Vista Community Association and Ecology Ottawa volunteers got together to plant 100 native trees in the first phase of planting on October 19th, 2013.

The group recognized that planting saplings would have the challenge of being torn-up by unfriendly hands or suffering a sporting accident from a soccer ball or enthusiastic soccer player. So, looking around they noticed fallen down snow fencing from previous projects. They removed fencing and t-bars from the shrubs and fence-row and after the saplings were planted, the fencing was erected.
The next phase of planting will include additional trees on the Heron Road side of the green area, with special attention paid to storm water runoff.

Members of ECCC invited to webinar on incineration
On April 8, we invited members of City Council’s Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) to attend a webinar on incineration. This webinar is timely: Council is considering incineration as an option for dealing with Ottawa’s waste, since staff has warned Council that the Trail Road Landfill—which currently receives the majority of Ottawans’ garbage—will fill up soon.
