Media Release: Eco Gala in Ottawa this Evening: Over 560 people to attend and former Mayor of Toronto to keynote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA (October 9th, 2014) – Former mayor of Toronto and current President and CEO of WWF Canada, David Miller, will speak to a sold out crowd of more than 560 people in Ottawa this evening on the need for Canadian cities to take leadership on the environment and sustainability during Ottawa’s premiere environmental event of the year: the 2014 Eco Gala

“We feel really privileged to have such an high-caliber environmental leader like David Miller, who has done so much advancing the environmental agenda both in Toronto and across Canada, as our main presenter for the evening,” Graham Saul, Executive Director of Ecology Ottawa, says.

Local environmental organization Ecology Ottawa is hosting the Eco Gala. The annual event celebrates local harvests and the vibrant environmental community in the nation's capital. Many local city councillors, MPPs and MPs have purchased tickets for this major fundraiser for Ecology Ottawa which will take place at the St. Elias Banquet Centre. Doors open at 5:30pm.

“The Eco Gala is great opportunity for the City’s leading environmentalists to get together, connect and discuss the progress Ottawa has made environmentally and where it needs to go into the future,” Saul says.

The event will feature a presentation by Miller on the fundamental role Canadian cities play in nature conservation, action on climate change and implementing safe and sustainable transportation such as increasing bikes lanes construction and providing affordable transit.

Local Ottawa area farmers have generously donated the bulk of the food for the Eco Gala. The event is being catered by legendary Ottawa-based vegetarian restaurant The Green Door. St. Elias Banquet Centre is located at 750 Ridgewood Ave., Ottawa. Doors open at 5:30pm.
