Happy New Year! With each new year comes new resolutions. Have you resolved to do more volunteer work? Are you passionate about making your community more green and environmentally friendly? Then volunteer with Tree Ottawa! Many opportunities will be coming up, so check our website often for updates. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to do some outreach and promote our Adopt-a-Tree tool!
Adopt-a-Tree Outreach: Have you noticed all those city trees along the sidewalks? Don’t they add a lovely touch of nature to our city streets? Unfortunately, those trees have an average lifespan of 7 years. All they need is a little tender loving care. They need to be adopted! We’ve just rolled out our free web-based Adopt-a-Tree Mapping Tool, and we need several passionate individuals to go out and promote it! This is a relationship building opportunity, and not for the shy. If you are comfortable talking to people, enjoy being outside and active, have good technical skills, and are passionate about trees, then you'd be great for this.

Members of ECCC invited to webinar on incineration
On April 8, we invited members of City Council’s Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) to attend a webinar on incineration. This webinar is timely: Council is considering incineration as an option for dealing with Ottawa’s waste, since staff has warned Council that the Trail Road Landfill—which currently receives the majority of Ottawans’ garbage—will fill up soon.
