Tree Ottawa Workshop in Centrepointe an overwhelming success!

Jan20WorkshopWe had a great turnout at the first Tree Ottawa workshop at the Centrepointe RBC last night! Our fantastic line-up of speakers shared relevant, useful, and inspiring information:

  • Bettina Henkelman of Morrison Hershfield showed us how to address the challenges homeowners face when trying to maintain large trees, and dispelled several urban myths about trees
  • Margaret Sambol of General Burns Community Association told us about how she organized her neighbourhood to replant trees in a beloved local park
  • Tracey Schwets from the City of Ottawa gave a comprehensive overview of city planting programs we can all tap into to re-green our parks, schoolyards, and sidewalks
  • Ecology Ottawa's own Karen Hawley explained the importance of planting the right tree for the right location
  • Our very own Ryan McGarry (Tree Organizer with Ecology Ottawa's Tree Team) showed how easy (and free!) it is to adopt-a-tree!
  • Thank you to all our speakers, and to all of YOU who came out!  We are looking forward to our next workshop (Tuesday, January 27th at RBC Hazeldean).

We would also like to thank the Centrepointe RBC for so generously hosting our workshop. Royal Bank is a founding sponsor of Tree Ottawa, having made a very generous donation to the initiative over the next three years. This funding has been essential to allowing the initiative to get on its feet. RBC recognizes the importance that trees have on creating healthy watersheds, which is the primary focus of RBC's Bluewater Initiative
