When the federal government announced its plan to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030, it gave little indication how it planned to do it, exactly.
Canada produced 749 megatonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in 2005, according to Environment Canada data. By cutting 30 per cent, the Conservative government is hoping to eliminate more than 200 MT a year.
So, just how doable is that?

Ecology Ottawa convened municipal-focussed grassroots organizations to deepen collaboration and build power for provincial action. The gathering was the second in-person Grassroots Groundswell, which took place in Ottawa, on March 26th, 2024. The gathering featured an agenda of presentations on climate justice, elections organizing, the power of municipalities to advance climate action, and weaving stories with data for change. There were interactive climate-focused sessions where participants shared knowledge, formed connections, and made plans to continue collaboration on solutions. We developed strategies for deepened collaboration and impact, as well as strengthening our coalitions.
