Submit ideas to green Canada's capital!

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is preparing a plan that could transform Ottawa, and we need your help to steer them in the right direction.

As Canada prepares for our 150th anniversary in 2017, Ottawa is gaining a lot of attention. The NCC has announced that they are preparing a 50-year plan for Canada’s capital region that will be launched in 2017 and they want to identify 17 major initiatives that will transform Ottawa.

This is where we need you to get involved! The NCC has asked the public to submit ideas on possible projects. So, how do you want to commemorate Ottawa? Do you want more ill-conceived monuments and statues? Or do you want living monuments that restore Ottawa’s tree canopy, protect and promote our greenspace, and foster a green future for our nation’s capital. You can submit your comments by clicking here.

We believe that a fundamental priority for the next 50 years should be to develop world class greenspace with a strong and vigorous tree canopy. One small way to start would be to launch an initiative in 2017 to plant or give away 150,000 trees in Ottawa for Canada’s 150th birthday. If we’re going to achieve Tree Ottawa’s million tree vision, we need the federal government to step up and help us get there. This would be a fitting gift to Ottawa and could be the beginning of a living legacy for our city and our country. We need living monuments, not more bricks and mortar.

Please go to the NCC website right away and fill out their online form. Tell the NCC and the new federal government that you want a priority on developing world class greenspace, and that they could take a positive step forward by planting 150,000 trees.
