The construction of the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is transforming the streets of Ottawa, and there is huge potential for a positive change along the Scott Street / Albert Street corridor.
Current LRT construction means two of the street's four lanes are dedicated to detoured Transitway buses. This has caused serious hardship for residents along the Scott and Albert Street corridor, but the completion of LRT holds huge potential for the area.
Once the first phase of LRT is completed in 2018 and thousands of buses are taken off the road, we're urging the city to replace these two bus lanes with walking and cycling facilities. A more "complete" Scott Street and Albert Street - open to all ages, users and abilities - would be a vital connecting point for area residents, government workers in Gatineau and Ottawa, new residents of LeBreton and Zibi, and beyond.
This is a once-in-a-generation chance to get it right on a critical street in Ottawa's transportation network. It would also be a meaningful step in the fulfillment of the City of Ottawa's Complete Streets vision.
In 2015, the City of Ottawa adopted a Complete Streets Implementation Framework that stated: "Complete Street concepts will be considered early in the project initiation phase and identified within the scope of the transportation project."
That's why we're asking for your support to help us make sure that the City stays true to its words by taking action on the Scott Street / Albert Street corridor!

Members of ECCC invited to webinar on incineration
On April 8, we invited members of City Council’s Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) to attend a webinar on incineration. This webinar is timely: Council is considering incineration as an option for dealing with Ottawa’s waste, since staff has warned Council that the Trail Road Landfill—which currently receives the majority of Ottawans’ garbage—will fill up soon.
