Join Ecology Ottawa on Saturday, August 20th at Major’s Hill Park at 2:30PM to welcome the March to Save our Rivers organized by STOP Oléoduc Outaouais!
The marchers will be entering the City of Ottawa and head to Parliament Hill, having marched for 6 days, all the way from Saint-André d’Argenteuil, along the Ottawa river to highlight the risk the proposed Energy East pipeline poses to it. The pipeline is meant to carry 175 million litres of tar sands oil from Alberta through the south-west portion of the city of Ottawa, putting all of our water at risk.
Let’s give them a warm welcome on our side of the bridge in Major’s Hill Park at 2:30PM and join them on the final stretch to the Hill! We will then walk with them to Parliament Hill, where we will have a few speeches and a photo op (details on speakers and guests to be determined).
The opposition to the proposed pipeline on the Quebec side is nothing short of spectacular. Let’s join forces for an afternoon and show all of Canada that this opposition is widespread and united, and not only a Quebec story!
On the 20th, the march will step off from the Lac-Beauchamp park in Gatineau at 9:30AM, break at Gatineau City Hall at 1PM, and then proceed to Major’s Hill Park. Feel free to join them at any point on that day, but at the least make sure you join us at Major’s Hill Park!
Let’s all come out and show the city and the country that Ottawans do NOT want their water threatened by this pipeline, and that we stand in solidarity with all opposition in the country. We are not alone.

Écologie Ottawa accueille la Marche Pour nos Rivières au parc Major’s Hill
Joignez-vous à Écologie Ottawa, samedi le 20 août, au parc Major à 14h30 pour accueillir la Marche Pour Nos Rivières organisée par STOP Oléoduc Outaouais !
Les marcheurs entreront dans la ville d’Ottawa en route vers la Colline du parlement, après avoir marché pendant six jours, depuis Saint-André d’Argenteuil le long de la rivière des Outaouais. L’objectif de cette marche est de sensibiliser la population aux risques associés au projet d’oléoduc Énergie Est. L’oléoduc transporterait 175 million de litres d’huile lourde des sables bitumineux de l’Alberta sur le territoire sud-ouest de la ville d’Ottawa, mettant toute notre eau potable à risque.
Accueillons-les chaleureusement de notre côté du pont au parc Major à 14h30, et joignons-nous à eux pour la dernière partie de la marche vers la colline du parlement où nous prendrons la parole et aurons une opportunité photo (détails sur les orateurs et invités à venir).
L’opposition au projet d’oléoduc du côté du Québec n’est rien de moins que spectaculaire. À Ottawa, nous avons notre propre opposition non moins inspirante ! Joignons donc nos forces pour un après-midi et montrons au Canada que cette opposition est à la grandeur du pays et plus que jamais unifiée !
Le 20 août, la dernière journée de la marche, les marcheurs quitterons le parc du Lac-Beauchamp à Gatineau à 9h30 pour se rendre à l’hôtel de ville de Gatineau vers 13h. Ensuite, la marche partira vers le parc Major pour y arriver vers 14h. Joignez-vous à eux au moment de votre choix, mais assurez-vous de nous rejoindre au parc Major !
Soyons-y en grand nombre et montrons au reste de la ville, au Québec, au reste du pays, que les résidents d’Ottawa ne veulent pas des risques qu’Énergie Est pose à notre eau, et que nous nous opposons à ce projet en solidarité avec le reste du pays. Nous ne sommes pas seul !

Ecology Ottawa attended City Council's Environment and Climate Change committee meeting on March 19 to delegate about a staff report about 2023 spending on the Climate Change Master Plan (CCMP).
All in all, we were impressed: City staff had only $5 million to work with—yet they turned this into 26 different initiatives.
