Trailhead Sign Ceremony and Group Hike

Sunday, 16 October at 10:00am

Mark your calendars for a fall hike on the Crazy Horse Trail.  Friends of Carp River will have a short ceremony to commemorate their new trailhead sign.  There will then be a hike on the trail to enjoy the autumn colours and see all the work that volunteers and Trail Coordinator Bernard have done to improve trail conditions.  Bring a snack for a stop at one of the new scenic lookouts over the beaver pond.

Volunteers completed the 60m boardwalk over a small creek and wet area in June.  More trail markers have been added and private property signs installed. The trailhead sign has been approved by the City of Ottawa and fabricated.  It will be installed by March Road in the next month.  Funds for all the materials were provided by a grant from the Community Foundation of Ottawa.

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the trailhead (March Road at Huntmar Drive) where you will be asked to sign a waiver.  Parking is available on the north shoulder of March Road, but it is limited. Traffic on this road can be dangerous, so please exercise caution.

The event will run during rain or shine. There is still more work to do on the trail, so expect some wet and muddy areas. There is rocky, uneven, slippery terrain unsuitable for very young children.

Note: Mid-calf waterproof boots with ankle support are highly recommended.
