The Government of Ontario has launched the Green Ontario Fund to help people save money and fight climate change. The Green Ontario Fund is a new not-for-profit organization that is funded through Ontario’s cap and trade program, with $377 million invested from the carbon market. The goal of the new organization is to create incentive programs for citizens to save on energy (and money), effectively fighting climate change through changes in lifestyle.
The first of these incentive programs is already available to the public: the GreenOn Installations program. This program offers a free smart thermostat - including the installation - for Ontario homeowners living in detached or semi-detached homes, townhouses or row houses. The Green Ontario Fund is initially targeting to install 30,000 smart thermostats beginning this fall and another 70,000 thermostat installations in 2018. Early registration is filling up fast - sign up to be among the first to take part in this program. The province promises more of these incentive programs to appear in the upcoming months. Check back regularly and we will let you know as soon as they appear!
