Happy National Tree Day!

It’s no secret that trees are important to our wellbeing. There have been multiple scientific studies that show this! After the Emerald Ash Borer killed millions of urban trees in Ottawa Tree Ottawa was created. We wanted to make sure that Ottawa had a healthy, resilient urban forest and that the benefits of this could be enjoyed by all. We thought National Tree Day would be a great time to look back, reflect on what we’ve done and get excited for the future!

Since the beginning of the summer, Tree Ottawa has embarked on Ottawa’s largest Tree Giveaway ever. We have given out literally thousands and thousands of trees at hundreds of community events throughout the summer. We have been targeting private property, which is extremely important for the replanting effort. Most tree planting initiatives in the past have been focused on planting on public land, but in order to have a healthy urban forest we are aiming to have a tree in every backyard in the city. Our tireless supporters have been making this happen by volunteering their time, helping to spread the word, adopting trees themselves, or donating to Tree Ottawa. You can check out some of the trees that have been given away on the Great Ecology Ottawa Tree Map.

We hope that you will help us continue our efforts over the coming months and next summer by donating to Tree Ottawa. Your donation will help us to attend these events and get more trees in the ground! Donations help to cover materials, transportation costs, and boothing fees. It is because of donations like yours that we have been able to give away thousands of trees!
