OTTAWA - Former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario Dr. Dianne Saxe will join an upcoming 'Hold the Line' rally hosted by Ecology Ottawa. The rally, scheduled to take place on Friday, May 8 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., is a call to action in advance of critical votes by council on the issue of whether to expand Ottawa's urban boundary.
"There is no more expert voice on the issue of sprawl in Ontario than that of Dr. Saxe," said Robb Barnes, executive director of Ecology Ottawa. "We are honoured that she could join us to offer her thoughts on the issue and her advice before Ottawa City Council's momentous decision on the urban boundary."
The Hold the Line rally will also feature appearances from:
- Shawn Menard, Ottawa city councillor for Capital ward, who will accept Ecology Ottawa petition signatures on behalf of Ottawa City Council;
- Moe Garahan, executive director of Just Food; and
- Paul Johanis, chair of the board of the Greenspace Alliance of Canada's Capital.
"This rally will bring together a dynamic line-up of speakers to focus on the many cross-cutting issues at play with the urban boundary decision," said Mr. Barnes. "The message is clear: we must hold the line on urban sprawl and instead work to build a greener, healthier and more inclusive city."
