The Living City Team is resuming the Tree Giveaway Campaign this year and we're ready to distribute more tree seedlings than ever: 15,000!
This initiative began because Ottawa’s urban tree canopy is under threat. Since 2008, the emerald ash borer has killed 25% of Ottawa’s trees. In addition to this, climate change, invasive pests, expanding urbanization and infill construction are also major threats to trees. We need to re-plant and keep planting to stay on top of the threats!
We're teaming up with community partners to host tree giveaways throughout Ottawa starting this April until September. We'll be updating our website and social media as we confirm giveaway dates and locations - so be sure to stay tuned!

Members of ECCC invited to webinar on incineration
On April 8, we invited members of City Council’s Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) to attend a webinar on incineration. This webinar is timely: Council is considering incineration as an option for dealing with Ottawa’s waste, since staff has warned Council that the Trail Road Landfill—which currently receives the majority of Ottawans’ garbage—will fill up soon.
