2025 Ontario Election

The Ontario election on February 27, 2025 is an opportunity for concrete ecological action in Ottawa and our province more generally.

The Province exerts control over a host of issues with ecological relevance:

  • Transit funding
  • Planning policy
  • Conservation Authorities
  • Energy regulations
  • Transportation policy
  • Housing targets and regulations
  • Building Code
  • And much more

It’s therefore critical that Ottawans take action during this election for progress toward a greener, more just city and province.

Ecology Ottawa has outlined 10 ecological planks, developed with our supporters’ help, that we’d like to see candidates adopt in their platforms. All of these priorities offer an opportunity for substantial progress.

So what can you do?

There are several actions you can take.

  • Vote. It may seem insignificant, but the last provincial election saw the lowest voter turnout in Ontario’s history. Fortunately, Elections Ontario makes it easy to vote, including through Early Voting—and one of our volunteers made a helpful guide on this. Check it out!
  • Learn about your candidates. You can find your candidates and more information about them on Elections Ontario's website. Please also contact your candidates—and share our ecological planks!
  • Attend debates. Another of our volunteers is tracking debates. For upcoming debates, we encourage you to not only attend, but submit questions in advance on ecological topics: it’s critical that candidates think about and share commitments on ecological issues. For past debates, we encourage you to click links available and check out past recordings.
  • Get out the vote. Many candidates undertake GOTV campaigns. Please join them!
  • Join our Elections Research Group. We’ve assembled a small team of people interested in monitoring developments in Ottawa during the campaign, and some of their work is linked above. If you’re interested in helping out, please email us
