On January 29, 2025, Ontario Premier Doug Ford called an election for February 27.
While the election’s timing is opportunism on Ford’s part, like all elections this presents an opportunity—the opportunity to elect leaders with the foresight and courage to confront the ecological crises before us and to better steward taxpayer’s money.
To centre ecology in this election, we’re compiling a list of ecological planks. We’re encouraging candidates to adopt these planks, and that our supporters ask candidates about them on the campaign trail.
This is where you come in: we’d love to hear your thoughts. What should the next Ontario government do to advance ecological progress? What ecological issues do you want addressed in Ottawa, or across the province?
We’ll aim to develop around 10 planks, and we’ll try to hit as many ecological categories as we can: transportation, energy, buildings, waste, habitat conservation, and so on.
If you have any ideas, please send them to [email protected]! And if you’d like to contribute to the campaign in other ways (including donations!), please let us know. We’re also striking a research group to inform our election-related initiatives, for example.
If you simply want to keep up with our work, please follow us on social media (@ecologyottawa.ca) or subscribe to our newsletter.
Let’s make Ontario brighter and greener!
