What have Ottawa’s leading mayoral candidates committed to on the environment?
With the election on October 26, Ecology Ottawa volunteers reviewed the published platforms of the four leading candidates through a sustainability lens, and we’re sharing what they found.
What the report covers
The scan looks at Jeff Leiper, Alex Lawson, Neil Saravanamuttoo and Mark Sutcliffe. It draws on Ecology Ottawa’s 2026 All-Candidate Environmental Survey, candidate platforms, debate statements, and independent accountability tracking. It separates commitments that are clearly environmental from policies with environmental effects, such as transit, housing and growth. Where a commitment is missing, or the evidence is thin, the report says so.
Two other candidates, Ali Shayvard and Peter Westaway, also answered our survey. Their answers, and every other candidate’s, are posted in full by ward on our survey results page.
