Ecology Ottawa is looking for a Community Organizer to join a dynamic team for an eight-week position. Reporting to the Communications & Events Organizer, the Community Organizer will be responsible for coordinating the volunteer component of Ecology Ottawa’s new National Capital Environmental Youth Program.

The goals of this project is to engage youth in local environmental solutions, deepen knowledge about environmental issues and solutions in Ottawa, and nurture environmental leadership.   

More specifically, the Community Organizer will:

  • Recruit and manage the Youth Council with youth representation from every ward; ensure regular engagement 
  • Support the development of educational materials by post-secondary students  
  • Contribute to the organization of an in-person annual city summit 
  • Support the development of community gardens in collaboration with partners 
  • Other tasks as required.

Work will be hybrid. Successful candidates will have:

  • Great communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in English and French is an asset.
  • Experience using Google suite of tools (Google calendar, Drive, Forms, Sheets, etc.), or a willingness to learn;
  • Access to a laptop and internet connection;
  • Strong organizational skills 

This position requires 32 hours per week for 8 weeks. Applicants must be youth who:

  • are between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
