Le français viendra sous peu.
Earlier today, Ecology Ottawa asked Mayor Sutcliffe and Ottawa City Councillors to sign an open letter initiated by Climate Caucus calling on federal party leaders to commit to meaningful climate action in standing up against American tariffs.
The letter makes five demands that will lead to national resiliency, job creation, affordability, connectivity, and meaningful action to tackle the climate crisis. As the letter states,
“This is the kind of action that this moment calls for. We are facing a growing climate threat, and an attack on our economic sovereignty. We can and must take them both on at once.”
Ecology Ottawa is calling on Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Ottawa’s entire Council to join the mayors, city councillors, and local elected officials across the country in a sustainable, thoughtful response to economic uncertainty.
Currently, the following Ottawa councillors have signed the letter: Shawn Menard, Stéphanie Plante, Sean Devine, Theresa Kavanagh, Marty Carr, Riley Brockington, Laine Johnson, and Jeff Leiper. Please ask your councillor to sign the letter!
Please see below is the message we sent Ottawa City Council.

Dear Councillor,
I write to request your signature to an open letter to federal party leaders calling for commitments to meaningful climate action.
Specifically, the letter calls for the following:
- A national East-West-North clean electric grid
- A national high-speed rail network with electric-bus extensions
- At least two million new non-market, energy-efficient homes
- Building retrofits and heat pump installations across the country
- A national resilience, response and recovery strategy
We would be pleased to share news of your support for this letter in our channels.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Best wishes,
William van Geest
