FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
22 April 2025
OTTAWA | TRADITIONAL TERRITORY OF THE ALGONQUIN ANISHINAABEG — Ecology Ottawa today released eight suggested ecological planks for the federal election.
“Discussion of climate change and the environment in general has been wholly inadequate so far this election period,” said Executive Director William van Geest. “We’re hoping to change that.”
The planks cover a range of ecological topics, ranging from banning new pipelines to strengthening the federal Active Transportation Fund, and from increasing Housing Accelerator Fund investments to implementing the Montreal Biodiversity Agreement.
“The measures we propose will not only reduce emissions and protect biodiversity, but they will also have major economic gains, and improve health outcomes. These benefits will be tangible not only at the municipal level, but for Ottawans in particular,” said van Geest. “We urge candidates to adopt these planks in their platforms."
Ecology Ottawa has also created a petition that allows Ottawans to show their support for the planks, and they will be contacting candidates to solicit their support.
