Call on Mayor Sutcliffe to stop the clear-cutting of Tewin lands and hold AOO and Taggart Group accountable.
We are devastated and outraged to hear of the clear-cutting in recent weeks of at least 70 hectares of trees near the planned Tewin development.
The landowners of a parcel of land near the planned Tewin development clear-cut this land without a permit from the City of Ottawa.
Trees are a critical part of our ecosystem, providing habitat for animals, filtering the air of pollutants, and sequestering carbon. Trees provide many benefits to humans, other species, and the environment, in addition to the inherent value of nature.
According to the City of Ottawa’s Tree Protection Bylaw, City Council “has approved a strategic Urban Forest Management Plan with a goal to maintain and grow Ottawa’s urban forest….[and] the protection of trees is key to realizing the objectives and principles of Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan and Ottawa’s tree canopy cover goals and tree policies outlined in the City’s Official Plan.”

Nous sommes dévastés et indignés d'apprendre la coupe à blanc, ces dernières semaines, d'au moins 70 hectares d'arbres près du projet Tewin.
Les propriétaires d'une parcelle de terrain près du projet Tewin ont coupé à blanc ce terrain sans permis de la ville d'Ottawa.
Les arbres sont un élément essentiel de notre écosystème, car ils fournissent un habitat aux animaux, filtrent l'air des polluants et séquestrent le carbone. Les arbres offrent de nombreux avantages aux humains, aux autres espèces et à l'environnement, en plus de la valeur inhérente à la nature.
Selon le Règlement sur la protection des arbres de la Ville d'Ottawa, le Conseil municipal " a approuvé le Plan de gestion de la forêt urbaine dans le but de préserver et de faire croître la forêt urbaine d’Ottawa...[et] la protection des arbres joue un rôle essentiel dans l’application des objectifs et des principes du Plan de gestion de la forêt urbaine d’Ottawa ainsi que des objectifs en matière de couvert forestier et des politiques arboricoles définis dans le Plan officiel de la Ville ".
