3. What is your position on expanding Ottawa's urban boundary?

Ahmed Rashid

“I do not support expanding the urban boundary. We have a $3.8 billion repair backlog and infrastructure that cannot keep up with the growth we already approved. Sprawling outward costs more in roads, sewers, and services, and it eats green space. I would rather build up in existing neighbourhoods, especially near LRT stations, where infrastructure already exists. Infill is cheaper, it is faster, and it does not pave over the places that make this city liveable. Let us fix what we have before we build more.”

Donna Dickson

“I don't support the expansion of the urban boundary. The city already struggles with urban sprawl and has serious issues delivering services to some residents out of the city center. Ottawa needs to focus on improving services and quality of life to all wards before the subject of expansion comes up.”
