I am supportive of this plan. However, it has to be in coordination with other important groups that have considerable knowledge. I don't want to see us go down a road that seems great and is actually harmful and without benefit...despite good intentions.

Christine Moulaison

At this time I’m fully on board with funding this initiative. However, I’m also acutely aware that situations and circumstances can change very quickly. Seeing how the pandemic shifted our city, country, and the world as a whole, I know that priorities can change rapidly at times. This does not mean that I am not fully invested in a greener, cleaner future for everyone. I have four children and I want to leave our city a better one for them and their families.

Double questions in a survey are not good survey design. However, I will explain that urban boundary extension is necessary for a number of reasons. However, the two things listed here (urban boundary extension and building more 15-minute neighbourhoods) are not mutually exclusive. In fact, in the newer neighbourhoods, there is the best chance of us designing 15-minute neighbourhoods. This is not a topic that can be discussed properly in this short survey.

Christine Moulaison

This is a difficult one. I am fully on board with building 15 minute communities all over our city. We are in the midst of designing and building a new and revolutionary community here in Kanata North. I hope to use it as an example of what can be within our urban boundaries. However, we know that growth in our city, and in particular Kanata North will be rising at an almost unprecedented rate. There maybe times where we may need to seriously look at our boundaries and expanding them at times. This does not mean that I wouldn’t look at all alternatives on the table, nor does it mean that I would not also ensure that we maintain as much greenspace as is possible for the community and city residents. We know how much benefit these areas have on public mental and physical well being, we need to ensure we maintain as much as is possible.

That seems like a good thing to do, but it actually creates challenges for us all right now and into the future given how slow we are and continue to be to find other reliable sources of energy. And, the geopolitical climate right now requires much more analysis of our energy needs. I don't think just phasing out natural gas infrastructure will get us where we want to go in terms of our climate goals. Why does no one ever talk about Carbon capture and sequestration technology. Reducing is not going to do the trick.

Christine Moulaison

Yes. I feel this answer is pretty self-explanatory.

This makes sense on all levels. However, we need to realize that retrofitting may take longer and be less efficient than complete rebuilds.

Christine Moulaison

This could be an absolute win-win initiative. Reducing the cost of living, retrofitting and ensuring we modernize our city without having to bulldoze and rebuild homes is in everyone’s best interests.

This will be more and more necessary. All people in the City are vulnerable. Initiatives to protect all populations need to be properly supported and funded.

Christine Moulaison

We see storms in our city and around the world intensifying, and becoming more frequent. To ignore these signs is extremely short sighted and dangerous to all our residents. We need to make changes. We need ensure our city, especially our most vulnerable residents, are not only protected but proactively prepared in advance for these events.  There are so many options and ways to do this that wouldn’t overwhelm the budget, but would ensure preparedness and better safety for everyone.

That has always been Plan A. Plan A never survives first contact with reality, however. That is what we have all witnessed. Of course I would support building a rapid, reliable, affordable, accessible transit system for all. Who wouldn't?

Christine Moulaison

The unreliability of our transit system cannot continue. We are losing riders daily and this not only impacts the budget, but the environment.  If we want our city to be a beacon going into the future, fixing our public transit system needs to be an absolute priority.

I hear this request on a daily basis from residents. Maintaining the ones we already have, however, is expensive. And, we are very far behind on the upkeep of the existing pathways. That has to be a priority.

Christine Moulaison

Every day I see more and more mixed use of the “bike lanes” in Kanata North. Ensuring our city is accessible for all, city wide should be a priority for all members of council. This is an issue of equity and equality, not just an environmental issue.

Yes. We need to keep planting trees wherever and whenever we can. We are nowhere near our target and that target is even further out of reach given the recent storm.

Christine Moulaison

Yes.

Cathy Curry

This is a key priority for the residents of Kanata North. Of course.

Christine Moulaison

I am avid supporter of greenspace across our city. We are so fortunate in Kanata North to have so many trails, ponds, quick access to the river and the green belt. I wish all our wards had the same benefits with such easy access. We cannot afford to lose anymore of the spaces in our city that we already have. Preservation will be key.

The multiple parts of this question cannot be answered with just one yes or no. There is an assumption here that what has been stated is the only solution. There may be others. However, I commit to looking at all of the ways we can improve efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. Not using things in the first place is also a strategy.

Christine Moulaison

Yes.

My mother has this system in Toronto. We are far behind the initiatives that work in other cities. I am glad to see us finally looking to change our model.

Christine Moulaison

I do support this however I feel implementation may be more complicated than it is being made out to be.  Being able to find a median between fees, family and home sizes, income equality, and budget needs may be a fine balance.

I would want to work with anyone who has more, better, different and creative ideas for how we can create environmental policies that work.

Christine Moulaison

This should be a priority of all council members.

Of course. All people have different contributions to problem-solving. How could anyone say no to this question?

Christine Moulaison

This has always been an issue I have strived to uphold and always will. Being a voice for the residents of Ward 4, and the city as a whole is an honour I will not take lightly environmentally and otherwise.
