La version française sera bientôt disponible…

The EcoYouth Ottawa Council is a group of young leaders from across Ottawa who are committed to advancing local climate solutions and environmental sustainability. Supported by Ecology Ottawa, the Council provides a platform for youth to engage in meaningful dialogue, develop leadership skills, and collaborate on initiatives that strengthen community resilience in the face of the climate crisis.

Council members represent a diversity of experiences and perspectives, united by a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, education, and advocacy. Together, they work on projects that promote climate equity, protect biodiversity, and foster inclusive, community-driven approaches to sustainability.

For information on past councils, see Council Members for 2025–2026 and Council Members for 2024–2025. For more on EcoYouth Ottawa, see the project webpage.

My name is Aaron Hagos. I am eager to build on our past successes and drive impactful environmental change in our community as a returning EcoYouth Council member. my main eco-interests are promoting active transportation, organizing tree planting events, and staying active through sports. Having previously collaborated with passionate youth across the city, I look forward to diving back into local advocacy, climate action, and sustainability education. I am excited to reconnect with returning members and welcome new voices as we work together toward a healthier, more sustainable future.

Alexis

Council Member

I’m in my 3rd year of Political Science and Feminist/Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa. I currently work for the Sustainability Office at the University of Ottawa as a Sustainability Clerk who presently oversees our Textile and Electronic Waste Diversion Programming. I volunteer at Pinhey Sand Dunes Conservation, the Stittsville Community Garden, and Blackstone Community Garden. I enjoy being part of local environmental initiatives. Some of my best environmental experiences in Ottawa include attending my first Fridays For Futures Climate March, attending local Native Plant seed swaps/sales, hosting neighbourhood green space cleanups, and rescuing injured/ill wildlife. In the future I hope to expand my studies on environmentalism, conservation, and sustainability. I can frequently be found going for long hikes in forests with my lab rescue Beagle Timbit. I am excited to work with the EcoYouth Council on biodiversity protection, community awareness/engagement, and climate advocacy.

Amelia

Council Member

Amelia is a 2nd-year Biomedical Science student at the University of Ottawa. From convincing strangers to plant trees in their backyard to assisting silent disco garbage cleanups, she has learned every time more about the environment. Through the EcoYouth Council, Amelia hopes to create meaningful change in the community by inviting others to participate in events centered around planetary health and a sustainable future. She would like others to grow their environmental passion just like she did with Ecology Ottawa events!

Cameron

Council Member

Cameron is a fifth-year environmental studies student at Carleton University who is passionate about grassroots environmental action. He believes strongly in the need for climate solutions, the necessity of biodiversity preservation, and the ability of local communities to take action on both. He loves working with residents to find their own ways to care for and steward their environments through outreach, education and engagement, and is incredibly excited to do so alongside his EcoYouth Council peers.

Chloe

Council Member

Chloe is a first-year Environmental Studies student at the University of Ottawa, passionate about biodiversity and bringing native pollinators back to Ottawa. Chloe has been to New Brunswick to study and participate in fieldwork at the Huntsman Marine Centre. Outside of Ecology Ottawa, Chloe likes to hike, travel, and teach others about their number 1 passion; entomology. Through ecology Ottawa, Chloe is excited to participate in making Ottawa a greener capital. With their work with CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability), they hope to make the voice of the youth known to those at the top.

Jonathan

Council Member

I am a third-year Environmental Studies student at the University of Ottawa with interests ranging from sustainability and conservation to geography, geomatics, and waste management. Through my studies and some of my recent experiences, I have also been developing a greater appreciation for the outdoors and discovering new interests, including stargazing. I joined the EcoYouth Council because I wanted to build a community with like-minded people where we can exchange ideas, learn from each other, and work together on meaningful projects that actually make a difference. I am excited to meet new people, explore new ideas, and see what we can accomplish together this year!

Lindsay

Lindsay is about to graduate from the Environmental Studies program at uOttawa. Originally from Thornhill, she moved to Ottawa four years ago for university and has grown to love living downtown in a walkable city. She is passionate about climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental protection, and how these intersect with politics and law. Her volunteer work with uOttawa's Office of Sustainability, including waste auditing, work at the free store and garden maintenance, along with co-op terms at Environment and Climate Change Canada, DFO and PSPC, has driven her interest in public transit, electrification, composting/waste reduction, and air quality. Through the EcoYouth Council, Lindsay hopes to become more civically engaged and better understand the role municipalities can play in shaping environmental solutions.

Naomi

Council Member

I’ve been working on environmental activism projects since 2019 and have always loved animals and the outdoors! I do a lot of fundraising and leadership within my school and one of my biggest passions is my volunteer role coaching Taekwondo. The arts also play a big role in my life; I love painting, singing, photography and acting. I always jump at the chance to be involved in awareness campaigns and wanted to join a council that would allow me to meet likeminded youth. Through this role I hope to spark discussions on overconsumption and support sustainable infrastructure campaigns.

Shaarby

Council Member

Hey I'm Shaarby! I'm in my third year of geomatics at Carleton University. I'm interested in mapping, GIS, environmental conservation, weather monitoring, gaming and art. I joined the Ecology Ottawa Youth Council to improve the community and make a difference!

I’m a student at Carleton University studying Public Affairs and Policy Management with a minor in Law. I’m interested in how environmental concerns affect local decision-making, and how civic engagement influences those decisions. I joined the EcoYouth Council to broaden my understanding of environmental issues, connect with and learn from others, and contribute to local initiatives.
