Dear Ecology Ottawa community,
I hope your year is off to a great start, and that you are feeling as refreshed and energized about environmental action as we are at Ecology Ottawa.
I wanted to share personally with you that I will be transitioning out of Ecology Ottawa over the next few months. This has been a very difficult decision for me, as I believe deeply in this wonderful organization and our important work together. Since you welcomed me in 2022, I have been heartened by the vibrant and effective grassroots movement that is the Ecology Ottawa community, and have been deeply proud of what we accomplish together. Local environmental action, conviction, and community care are central tenets in my life, and it has been – and continues to be – a privilege to embody those values as action here. However, I know that it is time for me to focus my energies on being an environmental author as well as with my young family.
But I’m not going anywhere yet! Our priority is finding the right fit for this important role, and maintaining the health, momentum, and impact of the organization of which we are so proud. The Board of Directors, myself, and staff are committed to a smooth and thoughtful transition, and we plan to select and welcome the new leader over the spring, with a transition between the two leaders.
This means we are now officially searching for a new Executive Director to lead the organization into an exciting future of fighting climate change, protecting nature, and growing people power in our nation’s capital. Take it from me: this is a fulfilling and invigorating opportunity for an environmental leader and organizer who is passionate about creating change through municipal environmental action and advocacy. You can read more about the role here.
Ecology Ottawa is at an exciting moment, with the beginning of a new strategic plan, exciting new projects, and growing environmental awareness, as well as a talented, committed team and Board of Directors. I am sure we will stay connected within the environmental movement. Thank you all for your incredible support, and I look forward to continuing working with you on growing people power and local environmental action in our organization and community.
