Save the date: Thursday, October 12th, 2017 at the Aberdeen Pavilion. 

This year, our annual dinner is bigger and better than ever!

On October 12th 2017, at the Aberdeen Pavilion in Lansdowne Park, Ecology Ottawa will be celebrating our 10th anniversary by hosting EcoFest - Ottawa's biggest gathering of the environmental community.

This event will feature speakers, food and drinks from local vendors, live and silent auctions, green activities, and organizations and businesses sharing their exciting environmental initiatives. This evening is about bringing together great people to celebrate our successes and learn about the diversity and strength of the environmental movement.

Volunteer opportunities: Join our team this summer

If you're looking for more ways to enjoy the summer and help promote healthy greenspace, advocate for clean energy or divert waste from landfills, Ecology Ottawa has you covered. Check out our volunteer positions below!

1. Volunteer for the Green Team at the Canadian Pacific Women's Golf Tournament, August 21-27

The Ladies Professional Golf Association will be teeing off late August at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Come join us to keep the grounds clean and green as thousands of fans gather to see the stars in action. We are looking for a group of committed volunteers to help make this week long event run without a hitch.

June 22nd-25th Tree Giveaway Events!

This weekend, we are going to some of the biggest festivals of the summer to give away HUNDREDS of FREE trees, including the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival.

Here are the events we’ll be at this weekend. If you’re in the area and want to pick a tree (or just want a friendly face to say hi…we’re super friendly!), drop on by!

June 22nd-25th: Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival: Mooney's Bay. This is the biggest event we have all summer! We'll be there Thursday and Friday 5pm-8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am-8pm. It's going to be jam-packed with people, so you'll want to make sure to snag a tree before they're all taken!

A New Urban Forest Management Plan is Officially on its Way to Council

On Tuesday, June 20th 2017, Ecology Ottawa appeared at City Hall to congratulate the City of Ottawa for developing a new Urban Forest Management Plan draft, and to gift the council with a tree composed of the names of our petition signers.

In the wake of the emerald ash borer crisis, we wanted the City of Ottawa to take stock of the lessons learned from the experience and develop a comprehensive, long-term plan to manage Ottawa’s urban forest.

Tree Giveaway Weekend Events: June 17th-18th

Have you heard? Ecology Ottawa is giving away thousands of FREE trees this summer! We'll be handing them out at a multitude of events every week!

Ottawa Community Housing Tree Plantings

Trees make communities better. With that in mind, Ottawa Community Housing recently partnered with Ecology Ottawa to do a tree planting in two neighbourhoods in the city. With the help of a whole bunch of awesome volunteers we were able to plant 20 trees in each neighbourhood!  The trees planted included lilacs, crab apples, ornamental pear, maples, and more. We acquired the trees with generous help from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.

It's no big secret, but trees bring happiness to our lives.

It all began in 1984, after a researcher noted that patients who had rooms with a window overlooking trees were discharged earlier than patients with rooms overlooking walls. As straightforward as it may seem, with greenery more therapeutic than a brick wall, this sparked a further study later conducted by a team of researchers from the United States, Canada, and Australia, all led by a professor at the University of Chicago. So just what was this study?

Join the David Suzuki Foundation, Ecology Ottawa and Ecojustice for an interactive, multimedia forum about the future of environmental rights and responsibilities.
Over the past 50 years, environmental rights have been the fastest-growing body of human rights law internationally. In 2016, Ottawa joined 150 other municipalities in the Blue Dot movement and passed declarations recognizing the rights to a healthy environment.  We have a historic opportunity to ensure everyone in Canada has the right to clean air and water, safe food and a stable climate.
