“Better messaging about recycling methods, practices and overconsumption.”
Stéphanie Plante (Response originally given in French, translated to English by EO Volunteers)
“I’ve always promoted the secondhand shops in our neighbourhood (Bee You, Maison Marie Louise, Free Store, etc.) and I’ll continue to encourage buying secondhand, donating, and reusing. These shops extend the life of items while offering affordable options and supporting the local economy.
I also want to promote repair cafés, where residents can have their items repaired and learn how to maintain them rather than throwing them away. The City can facilitate these initiatives by providing them with space and publicizing their activities, donation drives, and opportunities for reuse.
Finally, we need to make composting and recycling more accessible, particularly in multi-unit residential buildings. Reducing landfill waste starts with preventing waste and making repair, sharing, and reuse simple parts of everyday life. »
