Ottawa, February 2, 2015 – TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline president, Francois Poirier, came to Ottawa today, expecting to be the star attraction for a crowd of over 200 who paid to listen to his speech at the Chateau Laurier. Instead, his talk was interrupted by Ottawa residents upset with TransCanada’s plans to ship 175 million litres of tar sands bitumen through Ottawa every day.

"Work began Tuesday to remove some 370 ash trees from Hampton Park after the trees were identified as having been infested with the emerald ash borer.
The tree removal at the park northwest of Island Park Drive and the Queensway is expected to continue until Feb. 3, according to the National Capital Commission.
On January 22nd, the Ontario government returned to Ottawa to hold their last community consultation here on the proposed Energy East pipeline in a Kanata hotel.
Convened by the Ontario Energy Board, it was an important opportunity for residents of Ottawa to speak openly about their concerns and objections to the pipeline, and Ottawa residents flocked to the meeting.
The General Burns Community Association has been working with the City of Ottawa and Ecology Ottawa to develop a plan to plant more trees in General Burns Park (107 Chesterton Dr.) for a scheduled fall planting.
