The event is from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, held at the Orpheus Musical Theatre on 17 Fairmont Avenue. This is a great chance to join ward Councillor Jeff Leiper for a community discussion and catch-up.
We’ll be at the event with information about our upcoming active transportation audit and petition for a safer Sherbourne Road, an initiative we are taking on in conjunction with the Carlingwood and McKellar Park Community Associations. The community deserves a street that is safe for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and abilities.
On Saturday August 15th 2015 stop by Farm Boy in the Ottawa Train yards and come say hi to the Tree Ottawa team. Tree Ottawa will be at the Train Yards Farm Boy talking with shoppers and giving away trees by donation.
Farm Boy opened their first store in Cornwall Ontario in 1981; at that point their sole focus was fresh local produce. In 1992 they expanded the Farm Boy chain to Ottawa. Today there are 12 Farm Boy locations including the Train Yards location, which opened in spring of 2013. Farm Boy has maintained their commitment to fresh and local products throughout all their expansions; they have even created an interactive map of Ottawa showing where certain products come from (found here).

Andrea Reimer, Deputy Mayor of Vancouver and one of the most progressive environmental voices in Canadian municipal politics, speaks about Vancouver’s strategy on becoming the Greenest City in the world by 2020 and a 100% Renewable City by 2050. She is joined by Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, who advocates for environmental and social justice. David Chernushenko, the City of Ottawa’s Chair of Environment Committee will join these speakers to reflect on our city’s renewable energy strategy.
If you live in the area, you know how dangerous Sherbourne Road can be for pedestrians and cyclists. Sherbourne Road is used by citizens for practical (getting to school, work, etc.) and recreational (a walk to the park, a bike around the neighbourhood, etc.) purposes, but speeding traffic makes doing this safely substantially more difficult.
Ecology Ottawa has teamed up with the Carlingwood and McKellar Park Community Associations to tackle this issue and make Sherbourne Road safe and accessible for all travellers. If you feel passionately about this issue, you can:

Classic Victorian Tea will be served in 'the tea room under the trees' at the Central Experimental Farm Arboretum this Sunday July 26 from 2-4pm. This annual event features all things Victorian. Some guests over the years dress in classic period costumes and there is a "best hat contest". Patron's attending can feel free to bring their own pario chairs to listen to live music.
Tree Ottawa will be set up at Herbfest in Almonte this July 26 from 9-5pm promoting our tree planting initiative. The festival is located at The Herb Garden, a privately owned AGRI-tourist destination, which boasts one of the most tranquil places in the Ottawa Valley.
Herbfest is an yearly mid-summer event that attracts gardeners, foodies, chefs, and herbalists or even those just looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle. There will be over 80 vendors and artisans set up as well as live entertainment, workshops and lectures, a chef cook-off the site's manyfragrant gardens to wander through.
July 16, 2015, Ottawa – As premiers gather in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to discuss a Canadian Energy Strategy and the country gears up for a federal election, Ecology Ottawa has launched an online advertising campaign calling for action on climate change.
“We are reaching out to people across the City of Ottawa who care about climate change and asking them to work together to demand action from all levels of government,” said Graham Saul, Executive Director of Ecology Ottawa. “Climate change is an urgent problem, we know what we need to do to, so let’s get it done.”
