Ecology Ottawa is embarking on our largest tree giveaway in Ottawa’s history! We are giving away nine different types of trees throughout summer. Thank you if you already have your tree sapling and here are some characteristics about your tree that you are about to plant!

Last Saturday, April 22, Ecology Ottawa celebrated Earth Day with two exciting events, the inaugural Ottawa Park Summit and Earth Day Celebration, and both events were a great success!
At the Ottawa Park Summit, 100 representatives from community associations, non-profit, and concerned citizens from over 50 groups came together to discuss better parks in the city. We heard from Dave Harvey of Park People about how communities get involved, parks get better, and Kevin Wherry about how the City of Ottawa organizes around parks. We also had great conversations about exciting things happening in parks in Ottawa, key concerns, and potential for future work around parks.
From April 24th to April 29th Ecology Ottawa is taking part in Clean Energy Days. This a week of meetings between Councillors and concerned community members to lobby for a real Renewable Energy Strategy in the City of Ottawa, as well as representatives from Community Associations all over the city who will be meeting with the Mayor. This is a city-wide movement that is unprecedented in both Ecology Ottawa and City Council history.
Registration is now open for the inaugural Ottawa Park Summit and Ecology Ottawa would like you to join us at our event – an innovative event that will bring together people from across the City of Ottawa that are active in their local parks to generate ideas and build momentum for better parks in our great city.
In organizing the event, Ecology Ottawa is partnering with Park People, an independent charity that builds strong communities by animating and improving parks. We believe that when communities get involved, parks get better!
Ecology Ottawa is partnering with Citizens for Public Justice, the Lowertown Community Association and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa to hold an all-candidates' debate on the environment in the run-up to the Ottawa-Vanier federal by-election.
The event will feature Nira Dookeran (Green Party of Canada), Mona Fortier (Liberal Party of Canada) and Emily Taman (New Democratic Party of Canada). It will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa (400 McArthur Ave.) from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, March 31.
Tree Ottawa is a community-centred initiative for the Nation’s Capital to dramatically increase the scale and ecological diversity of the urban and rural tree canopy in Ottawa. Tree Ottawa is building a greener community by engaging residents, private companies and public organizations in active efforts to protect, plant and celebrate trees in neighbourhoods and green spaces.
