On Saturday, September 17, 2016, Riverine Forest was the site of an important urban tree planting project.
Riverine Forest is a small woodland located on the edge of Champlain Park in the Westboro neighbourhood of Ottawa. Residents and volunteers from the Champlain Park Community Association (CPCA), with the support of the National Capital Commission (NCC), gathered to plant 25 new trees.
Ottawa has a Riverkeeper to keep our rivers clean and healthy, so why shouldn’t we also have a Pathmaker to do the same for our streets?

It’s a sad fact. Ottawa – a city of one million people – lacks a full-time advocate dedicated to improving the health and safety of its streets for all users. We need a strong, independent voice to speak up on the issues that matter to cyclists and pedestrians in our city. We need someone to fight for better bike infrastructure, more complete streets, more accessibility and more connectivity.

Tree Fest Ottawa's fall festival is a new festival in Ottawa dedicated to celebrating and appreciating trees. The festival will be held in Brewer Park, in September and October 2016, and it will offer a host of activities and exhibits to suit people interested in nature, art, food and community.
Last spring, the Premiers of the country met in Vancouver. The meeting led to the Vancouver Declaration on Clean Growth and Climate Change. This meeting was the follow-up to the government committing to 1.5 degrees’ maximum of global warming in Paris, last fall. In Vancouver, the federal government decided to set up a public consultation process across the country regarding climate change and what needs to be done. It declared it would use these consultations to elaborate a national climate action plan, and set its sight on meeting again, in Vancouver, to release a completed plan this fall.
