OTTAWA – Paul Dewar, NDP MP for Ottawa Centre, joined Tree Ottawa and students from St Anthony Catholic School today to plant a tree in the school yard to mark Earth Day.

“Having more green space available for students to learn and play is a worthwhile goal,” said Dewar. “I am very pleased to partner with Tree Ottawa today, and I encourage everyone in the local community to join in and help make this school yard green!”

Petawawa raises pipeline worries with TransCanada

PETAWAWA - Councillors remains skeptical that the proposed Energy East pipeline will be entirely risk free from spills.

TransCanada representatives tried to alleviate fears of an ecological disaster during a presentation to council Monday night as they explained the project that will see natural gas pipelines running through the municipality converted to carry oil.

Glashan Greening Used Clothing Drive

For Earth Day (Wed Apr 22) we are launching the Glashan Greening Used Clothing Drive! This Drive (which goes to May 2) and the funds raised, will allow us to green more of the Glashan schoolyard this May/June. The more funds we raise, the more of the landscape construction plan will be done when the contractor shows up ETA late May.
Would you be able to drop by the schoolyard to say 'hi' on your way to work on Earthday? We'll be there to receive goods from 7:30 to 10am.

Earth Day is coming up and Tree Ottawa collaborators are going hard organizing fantastic community events! The Glashan Greening Project (Find out more here: www.glashangreening.ca/gifts) is launching their clothing drive to raise money to green-up their school!
Here are the four things you can do:
1. Collect up used clothing (bag) and household goods (box) and send it to school with your Glashan student (before May 1) or drop it at one of the community drop off dates. Note that the clothing can be stained, torn, etc as well since the stuff will get sorted and non-reusable fabric will go to fibre recycling.

The Pembina Institute is warning premiers and territorial leaders they need to think about the effects of pipelines on Canada's carbon emissions before they think about an energy strategy for the country.

A new report by the think-tank says building new oil pipelines, such as the Energy East project to bring western oil east, could produce more carbon pollution and wipe out a lot of the work the provinces have already done to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions....

The race for renewable energy has passed a turning point. The world is now adding more capacity for renewable power each year than coal, natural gas, and oil combined. And there's no going back.

The shift occurred in 2013, when the world added 143 gigawatts of renewable electricity capacity, compared with 141 gigawatts in new plants that burn fossil fuels, according to an analysis presented Tuesday at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance annual summit in New York. The shift will continue to accelerate, and by 2030 more than four times as much renewable capacity will be added.
